THE JOURNAL

Thunder on the Buffalo Waterfront Air Show

I am still on vacation, so this post is actually being typed out the weekend before. I didn’t want you all to think I was posting while I should be enjoying myself. On Father’s Day this year we attended our first major outing since before Covid hit and I must say… I have missed events like this! Even my husband who hates crowds said the same thing! We have gone to the air show numerous times at the Air Force Base in Niagara Falls but this year was different and it turned out really nice.

The best part was… The Blue Angels of course! They were the last of the 4 hour show but so worth it! (They were even worth the sunburn that I got, again. I even sprayed myself THREE times with sunscreen. Ugh) Anyway, they were amazing. Michael and I reminisced about a time when I was in college and had a neat but odd encounter with the Blue Angels. We were driving on the thru-way and we look over to the side (there was a valley), and flying right next to us was a massive jet. We waved and the pilot waved back, gave us a thumbs up and he hit the burners and blasted off. It practically knocked our socks off and we still remember it to this day.

I have always bean fascinated with the big military jets and planes and even though I really dislike flying, I can only imagine what the adrenaline rush must be like to fly one. One of my favorite movies of all time is Top Gun and it really fueled by love of military aircraft. Since I had watched this movie a million times during my childhood, I always dreamed of marrying my own “fighter pilot”. That dream didn’t exactly come true but I did marry a Marine at least. hehe

The one thing that I really missed this year was being able to walk around the tramac and see all the stationary planes and walk through them. Plus being able to listen to Michael and the other officers talk and banter with each other about which branch is better than the other. (and hearing Michael tell me to wipe the drool off my chin because they’re all so cute. Lol)

We also took my Mother-in-Law with us and she really enjoyed the show too. Hope you’re all having a great week and I will be sure to update you all on our Tennessee trip when we get home on Tuesday.

XOXO, Jules

I’ve been to lots of these shows. Our son was fascinated with planes, especially old military planes so we went to air shows. He ended up in the army, working on Apache Helicopters. He now works as a civilian on base, and takes those helicopters completely apart and rebuilds them.
    The Blue Angels are amazing!
I know you are having a great time on your vacation!

  2. Hi Jules, you still on vacation? Your son sure has grown! Did he enjoy the airshow? My husband took the boys to El Toro Marine base to see an airshow when they were kids. Enjoy your weekend!

It's been years since we have had kittens in the house but after our Penny passed away suddenly, we adopted 2 twin kittens. It's been an adventure getting them used to our 2 German Shepherds.
