If you have been following my blog for awhile or you know me personally, you know that I absolutely love Disney (and especially Disney movies). As Shawn has aged and grown out of the fun parties that I used to throw, I have tried to find ways of bringing us together more as a family and have a little bit of fun without going over-the-top.
That’s where “Once Upon a Disney Dinner” comes in… once or twice a month we will be having a Family Movie Night where I cook a meal (and make a dessert) that coordinates with a Disney movie. After dinner we all get cozy in the living room and watch the movie together. Yesterday was our first of many Disney Dinners to come.
Obviously, Lady & the Tramp was our first movie and we had spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. (Shawn was happy – it’s his favorite!) For dessert I made an easy version of cannoli. It’s cannoli filling but instead of the normal fried shells, it’s inside of a sugar ice cream cone. It tastes super good and so much easier to make than the traditional. I will post the recipe tomorrow for Tasty Tuesday.
I am really looking forward to this dinner and movie night because 1. I enjoy coming up with special ways of making our every day fun and 2. I love to bring that magic of Disney into our home. These are some of the movies that I have lined up…
Beauty & the Beast
101 Dalmatians
The Little Mermaid
Peter Pan
Jungle Book
Snow White
Cinderella
I am hoping that we make it through all these by the end of summer/early fall. We have an outdoor projector, so it would be nice when it’s warmer out to watch our movie under the stars too. I do have most of these movies planned out with the meal and dessert but if you have any ideas, please feel free to share! I am always up for a new idea!
Speaking of which… I would love to do Princess and the Frog but I am an extremely picky eater and don’t care for traditional New Orleans food. So if you have any ideas specifically for this movie, let me know. I am at a loss with the theming that fits within my food likes. Ha!
XOXO, Jules
You are sch a fun mom! I wish I had thought to do something like this. But maybe, I can do this with my granddaughters!
What a great idea!!!! I would like to watch Moana and do something of a Luau. My older grands like the Marvel movies. We hope to get to Disneyland in the fall. I think I will suggest the movie night with my grands.
This is such a great idea! I still think you should become a vlogger, Jules. lol Hmm do you like seafood? You could do a shrimp of some sort but use flavors that you like instead of traditional creole seasoning. Or just make pralines, beignets or even a king cake for dessert as a nod to New Orleans?
